5 Days To Go.

Today is officially 5 days from our wedding. It’s funny how a day you’re looking forward to can seem to take forever in coming, and at the same time feel like it’s suddenly here!

So wedding stuff is basically all we’ve been up to lately (as you’ll see below). We’ve had fun celebrating with friends and family the last month or so. We’ve done a lot of DIY projects- and there are still a few more DIY’s to D. We picked up our marriage license, and are deep into planning the ceremony and most of all our VOWS! Every once in a while I’ll get nervous thinking about everything that needs to get done, and what it all means.

It would be so easy to get caught up in all these details, the logistics, and the huge to-do list and miss the big picture. This time next week, I’ll be married to the man I love, and celebrating with my closest friends and family.

August 16th can’t come soon enough 🙂

My DIY Wedding

I’ve been pretty quiet around here lately, and I guess that’s because I’ve had too much on my plate.

Who knew weddings would take so much of your time?

So between work, freelancing, wedding stuff and caring for this puppy, my wonderful, creative blog outlet has been the thing I had to take off my plate-but only for now.

What’s taking so much work? We (and our families and friends!) are doing a lot of stuff ourselves. That includes collecting/building:

  • mismatched china,
  • paper fans
  • paper lanterns
  • letters (gotta love me some ampersands!)
  • altars (!),
  • chalkboard signs

…and so much more 🙂 Not to mention designing invitations (of course!) and spending waaaay too much time on our wedding website because I happen to think web design is fun.

I’ve been more reserved in sharing these details because a) how much do people really want to know all this, and b) I’m not sure if this is supposed to be a surprise when everyone shows up?

I’m just too excited to keep a lid on it any more.

Wedding is only 57 days away and counting!

I’m going to try and share small snippets here and there until the big day, and anticipate a return to blogging more regularly when my life is less cray.

2014 Resolutions? I only got one.

Last night, I couldn’t go to sleep. Partially because I took a long, migraine-induced nap in the afternoon, and partially because I was just too darn excited.

When the clock struck midnight and suddenly it was 2014, it hit me like a ton of bricks. As silly as it sounds, I can’t stop grinning over the fact that this is the year I’m getting married.

Now normally, I am pretty snarky about New Year’s Eve, with its high expectations and low returns. I tend to make fun of the resolutions people make, and laugh about how my gym will be empty again come February.

That doesn’t keep me from making a million of my own resolutions, however. To be more creative, read more, be more attuned to my fitness, go camping, spend time with loved ones—the list goes on and on.  I normally try to come up with a yearly theme or saying to help guide me. Past examples include Eat the Marshmallow, Balls to the Wall, and Reckless Abandon.

This year, at the NYE party that unexpectedly included fire dancing (!), I was encouraging friends to come up with their sayings, with the prompt “2014 is the year of the ______.” Some of my personal contenders included:

“2014 is the year of physically reaching my peak, then slowly letting myself go” (this was mostly a joke. Mostly.)

“2014 is the year of the fire dance” (Okay, so I may have gotten a little excited at the party. This was a very “of the moment” resolution.)

“2014 is the year of getting a dog” (I’m still holding out for this one.)

…but what I keep coming back to is that 2014 is the year I get to marry the best guy I know. And that’s why I’ve just been too excited to sleep.

So there it is, my one simple resolution for 2014: Get Married!

Happy 2014, everyone!

Engagement Pictures Part 2

Hello there!

The second change of wardrobe Kyle and I picked for our engagement pictures was a bit more…swanky. We decided that if this isn’t a time to dress fancy and look our finest, we really don’t know when is!

These pictures really showed off the beauty of the Kennedy School, and a lot of the quirkiness of their decor – although maybe it just brought out the quirkiness in us!

A very Merry Christmas Eve to you all! I’m ready to cozy up with this guy and celebrate with family.

Engagement Pictures Part 1

This week, our wedding photographer Joe Tobiason shared images from our engagement shoot, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. Read his blog post here.

Because there were so many great shots, we divided them for sharing into the three wardrobe changes we made. Here are some favorites from the first images we took, taken at our house and at the Kennedy School.

I seriously cannot recommend Joe and the work that he does enough. What I really love about his style is how candid these images are. He really has an eye for capturing the real moments that define a couple. We can’t wait to see what he does at our wedding with this photojournalistic approach.

Sneak Peek at Engagement Pictures!

On Sunday, Kyle and I took engagement pictures with the wonderfully talented Erika and Joe Tobiason! We went to The Kennedy School for the shoot, and had so much fun exploring and getting to know our photographer. Kyle had the idea of taking pictures at this neighborhood location, and after our little challenge to visit the historical locations a few years ago, it made a lot of sense for us!

A couple “sneak peek” shots from Joe! I have to say, as people who aren’t typically photo-savvy, Joe was great about bringing out our personalities and making us feel natural in front of the lens. We had an absolute blast getting to know this awesome couple, and are so excited for the big day!

More to come in the next couple weeks 🙂
